Imagine that you applied for a driver’s license with your state but in order to do so, you had to employ lawyers or consultants to help you through the application and then submit a fee of thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars to your state along with that application. Now imagine that your temporary license has been expired for two years and even though you have provided everything that the state has asked for, including that hefty application fee, they continue to insist that they are just too busy to issue you, or anyone else, a permanent driver’s license.
What is happening with these temporary licenses is a travesty. Sen. McGuire calls SB 67 a Band-Aid, but this problem is a self-inflicted bullet wound to the foot and we’re not sure that the industry will be able to limp away unscathed this time.
There are certain industries that are just inherently geared for success based on some primal tap into our DNA as human beings. If you’re selling sex and/or donuts, for example, business ought to be pretty darn good and you’d think that the same would be true for selling legal cannabis…especially in California…
This end run around the supposed safeguards and due process found in the criminal court system has always seemed unconstitutional to us, and this week in a stunning 9-0 unanimous decision, the Supreme Court of the United States agreed with us.
California Governor Gavin Newsom called President Trump’s stationing of U.S. troops at our southern border with Mexico a “manufactured crisis”. Now he has reassigned his state’s National Guard troops away from the border in order to fight the black market of cannabis…talk about a manufactured crisis, sir.
If Barr, as the Attorney General, ordered the closure of all state-sanctioned cannabis shops tomorrow, the laughter from D.C. to dispensaries would be heard from deep space. They just don’t have the guts and even if they did they don’t have the funds. It all comes down to intent and right now it appears the Feds intend to give us enough rope to either tie up all of our loose ends, or hang ourselves.
Considering the fact that many of today’s senior citizens came up in the 1960’s and 70’s, perhaps it should come as no surprise that our elders are quickly coming around when it comes to cannabis reform. Despite their roots rising right on through the free love hippy era, we must also remember that they were raised, and raised their own kids, on the most ignorant and uninformed propaganda about pot that our society has ever seen.
Flowers are failing. Oils are failing. Even empty carts are failing. What is a health-conscious cannabis consumer to do? The answer has been the same for decades, even before we knew that you could lab test cannabis…
In essence, the current version of the CARERS Act, if passed
as written, would focus on protecting states and agencies that elect to deal in
legal weed. It will do so by attacking the issue from three key
angles. Read the full story here in 5 minutes or less.
A group of economists has recently come out suggesting that states like California could raise their cannabis tax revenues as high as 50% and not see any drop in consumer demand or sales revenues. Not sure what they are smoking over there…
